The Best Luxury Couples Retreats in Ontario
Couples Resort, Whitney
Its location in Whitney near Algonquin Provincial Park certainly helps Couples Resort’s cause when it comes to including this charming property on our list of the best luxury Ontario resorts for romantic getaways. So, too, does its name. As you’ll not be surprised to learn, this year-round property, billed as Canada’s only 5 Star couple’s resort is, as the name implies, all about romance and carries a strict adults-only policy.
Couples come just to relax, reconnect, and spend together time away from their regular routines while enjoying indoor and outdoor adventures in what the resort claims is the hottest place to be in all four seasons. With saunas, walk-in steam rooms, and in-room Jacuzzi tubs, as well as authentic wood-burning fireplaces, you’ll certainly be tempted to hang out in your room.
A former hunting lodge, Couples Resort offers sumptuous five-course gourmet dining experiences served up in a tastefully decorated dining room complete with posh crystal and silver service, and a strict “no casual wear” dress code. Alternatively, you can also order in and dine in your room.
Speaking of which, the accommodations here consist of a mix of luxurious suites, some as large as 1,400 sq ft, as well as stand-alone cabins with king beds, marble bathrooms, bidets, and double steam showerheads.
And when you’re not being romantic? Well, then you’ll have to enjoy the endless list of nature and sports activities the resort provides, including canoeing and nature hiking in summer, and dog sledding and snowshoeing in winter.

Deerhurst Resort, Huntsville
Not only is Deerhurst Resort one of the oldest resorts in Ontario, but it’s also one of the most romantic. Couples have held weddings here pretty much since Deerhurst opened near Huntsville in 1896, and it’s also proven to be a popular honeymoon spot for couples (like me!) who want to stay in cottage country Muskoka after their nuptials.
Spanning 760 acres, it’s a big property, so there are plenty of opportunities to spread out and do your own thing. In warmer months golfing couples will want to indulge in a round of golf at one (or both) of the resort’s championship courses, Deerhurst Highlands and Deerhurst Lakeside, considered among the best golf courses in Muskoka.
Water-based fun is plentiful here, too, and includes canoeing and boat cruises… or simply sitting waterside and watching a great sunset over Peninsula Lake. Deerhurst is also one of the best luxury couples retreats in Ontario in winter, too, with activities including snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and ice skating all available.
The world-class culinary experiences at the resort also add to its romantic appeal, with dining options ranging from casual to fine dining, with menus that showcase local ingredients and flavours. Couples can indulge in intimate dinners at Eclipse Restaurant & Terrace, which offers stunning views of the lake, or enjoy a more laid-back atmosphere at the Compass Grill & Bar.
The Amba Spa at Deerhurst is another great place for lovers to unwind and reconnect through a range of treatments including relaxing couples. Ready for bed? The accommodations at Deerhurst range from cozy rooms to expansive condo suites, all tastefully decorated. Some of the best come with cozy fireplaces and large soaker tubs big enough for two. Order an in-room meal, and you’re all set for a memorable night in.

JW Marriott Rosseau Muskoka Resort & Spa
The clifftop lake view location of the JW Marriott Rosseau Muskoka Resort & Spa makes it an ideal spot for a romantic couples’ getaway in Ontario. Set overlooking Lake Rosseau in Muskoka, couples can enjoy leisurely strolls around the property, taking in the serene beauty of the Muskoka landscape, or partake in a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, and hiking, depending on the season.
Accommodations at the JW Marriott Rosseau are designed with comfort and elegance in mind. The rooms and suites exude a warm, inviting atmosphere, with many offering sweeping views of the lake, private balconies, and cozy fireplaces.
Dining at the resort is an experience in itself, with multiple options catering to different tastes and occasions. The resort’s signature restaurant, Teca, is a favourite for a romantic dinner, serving exquisite Italian cuisine in an intimate setting. For a more casual experience, couples can enjoy inspired dishes at the Muskoka Chophouse which boasts panoramic lake views.
Be sure to book a session at the resort’s HydroSpa. Offering a range of treatments, including couple’s massages, the spa provides a tranquil environment where couples can indulge in a little pampering and rejuvenation… and it’s all so good you’ll easily spend a few hours together here.

Horseshoe Resort, Barrie
Not only is Barrie’s Horseshoe Resort one of the best luxury couples retreats in Ontario, but it also just so happens to be one of the province’s top ski resorts, too. Which for couples means plenty of fun indoors as well as outdoors.
Fun summer outdoor activities include hiking the resort’s trail network, as well as mountain biking and even thrilling ATV adventures. Come winter, it’s all about skiing, with the resort’s snow-covered slopes ideal for all skill levels of skiing and snowboarding, with couples lessons being available for those new to the sport.
Topping the indoor fun here is the resort’s Amba Spa (well, apart from the indoor, uh, fireworks, of course!). Couples treatments are available, including a variety of pampering massages guaranteed to relax and rejuvenate. A recent addition to the spa experience is the nearby Vetta Nordic Spa. Opened in 2022, this state-of-the-art spa facility features a variety of hydrotherapy offerings, from swimming pools and plunge pools to hot tubs and saunas. Dining is also available.
Horseshoe Resort is also a popular Ontario wedding destination. Check out the resort’s attractive chalet-style chapel, the perfect place to tie the know or renew your wedding vows.
