The Canadian Opera Company (COC) has unveiled its highly anticipated 2024/2025 season, promising an array of productions set to captivate seasoned opera aficionados and newcomers alike. With a lineup boasting a mix of beloved classics and groundbreaking premieres, the COC continues to solidify its reputation as a global leader in operatic excellence.

Headlining the season is the much-anticipated COC staging debut of Giuseppe Verdi‘s monumental masterpiece, Nabucco, opening on October 4. This epic saga, never performed at the COC in its 74-year history, promises a grand spectacle of raw power and timeless storytelling. Featuring a stellar cast led by baritone Roland Wood and soprano Tamara Wilson, audiences will be transported to ancient Babylon in a production that promises to be both visually stunning and musically exhilarating.

Adding to the autumn excitement, the COC proudly presents the world premiere of a new production of Charles Gounod‘s Faust, opening on October 11, marking the first mainstage production entirely catalyzed by COC General Director Perryn Leech. With acclaimed tenor Long Long in the role of Faust and bass-baritone Kyle Ketelsen as Méphistophélès, this quintessential tale of a “deal with the devil” promises to enthrall audiences with its lavish spectacle and dramatic intensity.

Exciting New Works at the Canadian Opera Company

Continuing its tradition of presenting compelling new works, the COC introduces the Toronto premiere of La Reine-garçon, opening on January 31, 2025, a bold creation from Canadian talents Julien Bilodeau and Michel Marc Bouchard. This innovative opera, co-commissioned and co-produced with Quebec’s Opéra de Montréal, explores the intriguing story of Queen Christine of Sweden in Europe, blending history and imagination in a riveting narrative brought to life by a powerhouse cast of Canadian singers.
